Updated: Jun 25, 2019

Whether you’re new to the industry or are just looking to start working with a new company, submitting a comprehensive application can set you apart from other applicants in the best of ways.

Truck Driver Resume Template

Let’s face it, as soon as an ad is posted for a job, the Hiring Manager starts getting tons of e-mails and calls. Although it’s their job to give each application a thorough review, it makes it so much easier on them if they can find what they’re looking for on your resume. Here are four key components to include:

  1. Contact Information: full name, e-mail address, and phone number;

  2. Summary: a few sentences that summarize your experience including the type of vehicle you drive if you’re an Owner Operator;

  3. Experience: list all relevant experience; and

  4. Education: list all relevant education, courses, and certifications including WHMIS, Licence Class, Air Brakes Endorsements, etc.

Although you want to make sure the Hiring Manager has all the information they need to assess your application, be careful to not give too much information that they have to sort through. A well-written resume should be no more than 1 – 2 pages.

Resume for Truck Driver with No Experience

No experience? No problem! Here are two tips on what to add to your resume:

  1. In your Summary, explain that you are looking to get into the industry for whatever reason, a career change, coming from a different style of trucking, etc.; and

  2. Show what relevant Experience you do have such as in shipping and receiving or any other job where you interacted with truck drivers.

Depending on how the company that you’re applying for accepts applications, making a phone call in this case is always a good idea to further explain your situation and goals, as well as ask any questions up front. Most importantly, be honest! Acknowledge the fact that you have no experience and explain your reason for applying as much as possible.
